Benefits of Plant-Based Whole Foods
Many people are now embracing a more holistic, sustainable approach to
diet with long-term health in mind. A whole food, plant-based diet has
become commonly accepted as beneficial, but why?
Brendan Brazier (professional Ironman triathlete, two-time Canadian
50km Ultra Marathon Champion and bestselling author on performance
nutrition) says that the heart of this question is one simple premise:
that diet has a profound effect on health. A properly balanced diet
based on whole, unprocessed, plant-based foods is a healthy one
and those who eat a healthier diet are—yes—healthier.
Healthier people are closer to their ideal body weight, boast more energy,
suffer less joint inflammation, have stronger bones, recover more quickly
from exercise and, quite simply, get more out of life.
Evidence that a plant-based diet is the healthiest in the long-term
abounds. The landmark China Study ((BenBella Books, 2005) documents
this with first-hand research. Called “the “most comprehensive large
study ever undertaken of the relationship between diet and the risk of
developing disease,” The China Study proves that a diet rich in whole,
plant-based foods is a significant contributing factor to a longer,
healthier life.
As one of the few professional athletes following a completely plant-
based diet, Brendan Brazier can attest to the impact of whole foods
on performance and health. Says Brendan: “Having experienced first-
hand the power of consuming a whole, plant-based diet and I can tell
you that even a small change—like adding some clean, quality
superfoods to your daily diet—can help you achieve real benefits.”
Add more plant-based whole foods and you will:
-
Decrease body fat
-
Diminish visible signs of aging
-
Boost energy without caffeine or sugar
-
Cultivate mental clarity
-
Enhance mood
-
Eliminate junk-food cravings
-
Improve sleep quality
-
Build a stronger immune system
-
Lower cholesterol
-
Reduce biological age
Even if you’re not vegetarian or vegan—and never intend to be—you
can realize better health simply by incorporating more plant-based
whole foods into your routine.
